In designing the information flows and systems the interrelational and organisational side of the business is analysed first. The information technology is then designed, facilitating the organisation, knowing that the origin of problems will more often be found in the area of human nature and organisation, than in the area of technology.

This does not neglect the fact, that there can be situations in which information technology will be of predominant importance in the design. Technology, balanced with strategy and structure, has an enormous effect upon the return on investment of the business.

The Information Architect will integrate the organisation and the information systems, as well as the communication with customers and suppliers. Most often in a multi disciplinary team.

The Information Architect can do the designing process in different roles, such as:

-           sparring partner;

-           interim manager;

-           management consultant / coach;

-           change agent;

-           project manager;

-           second opinion.
